Natalie Morales paid tribute to her late father-in-law on Saturday, calling Joe Rhodes “one of the most amazing people” she knew.
“It has been a sad start to the new year with the sudden passing of one of the most amazing people I knew, my father-in-law Joe Rhodes,” the “Dateline” correspondent, 48, posted to Instagram.
“He was a wonderful father and grandpa,” Morales continued.
Rhodes, the father of Morales’ husband — who is also named Joe — died Friday, according to his obituary. He was 79 years old.
Morales also detailed Saturday how the elder Rhodes had “loved and cared for his wife Kay for more then 52 years and as she battled Alzheimer’s.”
“He taught us so much about love, character and devotion. We miss you and will keep you close in our hearts always,” Morales concluded.
“Today” co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb were among those who offered their sympathies to Morales and her family.
“So sorry natmo,” Kotb commented, along with two heart emojis.
“Dearest Nat, Sending all my love to you, Joe and the boys,” Guthrie penned.
Morales and husband Joe have been married since 1998 and share two sons.
