“Downton Abbey” star Hugh Bonneville is going to have a weird New Year’s Day. He’s hosting a concert given by the Vienna Philharmonic in an empty theater.
Explaining why the orchestra is going ahead with its annual New Year’s Day performance in the odd circumstances, conductor Maestro Riccardo Muti said, “We cannot abolish music, even in a pandemic. We need to have hope. Without music the day would be like a grave, would be the worst sign, a negative sign, for the entire world.”
Bonneville, who will host it for PBS, said, “out with the stress and in with the Strauss.”
